Swimming for Shark Conservation at El Cruce

At Saving Our Sharks Foundation, we are constantly looking for Shark Hero partners who will join us in our conservation efforts. Recently, an unexpected shark hero joined our cause. We’re talking about the “El Cruce” International Open Water Marathon.

During the past 25 years, El Cruce has attracted over 20,000 swimmers from all over the world who come to test their endurance on an open water swim from Cancun to Isla Mujeres. What makes this alliance unusual is that while most participants love swimming in open waters, they don’t always love sharks. In fact, for many of them, these animals represent their greatest fear.

Breaking Stereotypes: How El Cruce
Swimmers Embrace Shark Conservation

This is where the magic happens! Our partnership with El Cruce gives us a unique opportunity to chat with the swimmers of the 2024 edition about sharks, their vital role in the ecosystem, and how they’re not the fearsome monsters they’re made out to be. Plus, we’ll invite participants to swim for our cause by inviting their families and friends to sponsor each stroke to support shark conservation!

The entire Saving Our Sharks team will be at El Cruce this coming May 17-19, rallying swimmers to dive into action for shark conservation. We’ll be giving talks, and offering prizes, and yes, you guessed it, we’ll be hitting the water too!
