Saving our Sharks presents: Night for Sharks, Art in Defense of the Ocean.

Saving Our Sharks
Mexico City joins the marine conservation movement with “Night for Sharks”, a successful evening of art and environmental awareness that brought together influential Mexican leaders at the G56 Creative Hub in Mexico City to support shark conservation.

MEXICO CITY, May 8, 2025 – G56 Creative Hub space was transformed into a exclusive spot where underwater aesthetics and the urgency of marine conservation converged in the powerful silent auction organized by the Saving Our Sharks Foundation. The auction brought together a select audience of enthusiasts and committed figures, who responded fervently to the opportunity to acquire 33 extraordinary photographic representations of sharks and rays.

From the moment they entered the venue, attendees were greeted by an elegant and contemporary atmosphere, where every detail was carefully curated to reflect the majesty of sharks and the urgency of protecting them. The walls of G56, known for housing works by high-profile contemporary artists, were the perfect canvas for a series of stunning underwater photographs. These works, a testament to the beauty and vulnerability of the oceanic world, were generously donated by talented artists Fernanda Narchi, Pablo Simón, Alberto Friscione, Rodrigo Friscione, Manuel Lazcano, and Alberto Sánchez, whose lenses capture the essence of these crucial species. An event that merged a shark photography exhibition with a silent auction to benefit this vital cause.

The opening ceremony was attended by Alejandro Zozaya, President of the Saving Our Sharks Foundation, who passionately presented the foundation’s mission, projects, and daily impact on protecting marine ecosystems. Subsequently, Raziel Rivero, President of the Kab Xok Cooperative—a key strategic ally of the Isla Mujeres Initiative—shared an inspiring account of his community’s leadership in the substantial transition from traditional fishing to conservation. This effort not only protects marine wildlife but also generates new economic and social opportunities for local communities. Finally, José Luis Funes, CEO of Saving Our Sharks, expressed his gratitude for the support and highlighted the crucial role of sharks and rays as essential regulators of ocean health.

“Sharks are the guardians of the oceans balance. Their preservation is essential for the health of our future.”

The evening, which ran from 7 p.m. to midnight, brought together more than 150 conservation enthusiasts and valuable supporters, including distinguished individuals passionate about the cause, such as Alfredo Chedraui, Sissi Harp, Javier Arrigunaga, Luis Narchi, Gaby Vargas, Ricardo Farkas, Lorenza and Ana O’Farril, Alfonos Simón, Antonio and Lorenzo Cue, Manolo Serrano, Manuel Linss and Andrea Besquin, Jorge and Tanimara Macari, Eduardo Guzmnán and Alejandra Pitashny, Estrella and Miguel Simón, among other friends and conservation enthusiasts. They all came together to support the crucial work of Saving Our Sharks.

The evening was filled with an emotional atmosphere filled with gratitude for attendees and friends, especially for Hotel Impression Isla Mujeres by Secrets, the first hotel with a cause and a key ally of the foundation, and winner for the second year as the Most “Instagrammable” Hotel in the World 2024 and 2025 by Luxury Travel Advisor Magazine.

The results were overwhelming: the event not only generated funds for Saving our Sharks’ various conservation programs, but also ensured that these powerful images would find new spaces to continue inspiring respect and awareness. Each sale represented an investment in protecting sharks and educating future generations about their ecological value.

“This evening reminded us that art has the power to open hearts and awaken consciences. And that even in the depths of the ocean, there is beauty worth defending.”

At Saving Our Sharks, we deeply celebrate the partnership with individuals and organizations that share our vision of a future where marine conservation and the well-being of coastal communities go hand in hand. The success of this auction will not only boost our conservation efforts but also strengthen our work with communities like Isla Mujeres, demonstrating that environmental protection can be a driver of sustainable social and economic development.
